UlsterMUX Awarded Ofcom Licence for Enniskillen Small-Scale DAB Multiplex

UlsterMUX Ltd is delighted to announce that Ofcom has today awarded us the licence to operate the new small-scale DAB multiplex for Enniskillen and the surrounding Fermanagh area.

This award marks an important step forward for UlsterMUX, extending our presence beyond our established multiplex in Newry. The new Enniskillen platform will bring greater choice and diversity to listeners, with a wide range of local, community, and niche radio services set to broadcast digitally in the region for the first time.

John Gartlan, Director of UlsterMUX Ltd, said:

“We are proud to have been trusted with this new licence for Enniskillen. Our mission has always been to open up digital radio to stations that otherwise might never have had the opportunity. Today’s announcement ensures that Fermanagh will soon enjoy the same breadth of choice and community connection that our Newry multiplex already delivers.”

UlsterMUX will shortly organise an open meeting in Enniskillen town where individuals and groups interested in setting up a new community radio station can come along to learn more. To support grassroots broadcasting, UlsterMUX will provide free carriage on this multiplex for community stations, ensuring they can be heard across a large portion of Fermanagh without the burden of transmission costs.

Alongside UlsterMUX’s direct operations, our specialist multiplexing division Muxplex also provides the technical platform powering other small-scale DAB multiplexes in Northern Ireland and North West England, enabling broadcasters to reach new audiences in a cost-effective and reliable way.

Technical planning for the Enniskillen multiplex is already under way, with launch timelines and participating stations to be announced in the coming months.
