UlsterMUX Applies for Enniskillen Small-Scale DAB Multiplex

UlsterMUX Ltd is proud to announce that we have formally submitted our application to Ofcom to operate a small-scale DAB (SSDAB) multiplex for the Enniskillen area. If successful, this new multiplex will bring digital radio to a wide audience across central and southern County Fermanagh, providing greater listener choice and new opportunities for community and cultural broadcasting.

Expanding Access to Digital Radio

Building on the success of our Newry multiplex—on air since 2024—our Enniskillen proposal aims to provide indoor DAB+ coverage to over 28,000 residents across towns and villages such as Lisbellaw, Tempo, Maguiresbridge, Boho, and beyond. Two transmission sites have been planned to ensure a strong and reliable signal both in homes and on the move, especially along major routes such as the A4 and A32.

Community-Focused, Not-for-Profit

UlsterMUX is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation with a strong ethos of inclusion, affordability, and transparency. Our experienced team includes radio professionals, broadcast engineers, and community media advocates. We are committed to providing an accessible platform for local voices.

We’re offering:

• Free carriage for eligible C-DSP services based in the Enniskillen polygon

• Affordable DSP carriage for local and regional stations

• Discounted rates for services broadcasting in Irish or Ulster Scots, to help preserve and promote local culture and heritage

Strong Broadcaster Interest

We’ve already secured heads of terms with more than a dozen digital radio services including most of the services already available on our Newry service along with the Blast portfolio of stations

We’re also engaging with popular regional services from the Republic of Ireland, including Radio Nova and Northern Sound Radio, and hope to welcome them onto the platform when cross-border carriage becomes permissible under Ofcom’s future guidance.

Ready to Launch

With infrastructure and key equipment already in place, we are prepared to launch the multiplex within two months of a successful licence award. Our team has the proven expertise—having already launched and operated the Newry SSDAB multiplex—and we’re ready to serve Fermanagh with the same reliability and community focus.
